The Racehorse Rescue Centre is a registered charity No. 1150864 based in Carlisle, serving the whole UK and is a retraining establishment for the care of ‘vulnerable or unwanted’ former racehorses

Our Founder, Nigel Wood, received the Points of Light award from the U.K. Prime Minister in 2017 for the work it does with the community and the horses in it’s care.

Because not every racehorse has a safe place to go when racing ends.

Behind every racing name is a horse with a story. At the Racehorse Rescue Centre, we are here for former racehorses who need safety, care and a second chance when their racing days are over.

Supporting us does not mean letting the racing world off the hook. It means making sure the horse does not pay the price.

We rescue, rehabilitate and rehome vulnerable horses, giving each one the time, patience and understanding they need to rebuild trust and confidence. Some will go on to loving new homes, while others may need lifelong care and sanctuary — but every horse is treated as an individual, never as a number.

We believe no racehorse should be forgotten once the cheering stops. Their racing career may be over, but their life still matters.

Not lost in salaries or admin costs. We are 100% volunteer run. Every donation, sponsorship and act of support helps us provide food, shelter, veterinary care and a safe future for the horses who need us most.
